The Community Cars transport service helps anyone living in the Bournemouth area who is unable to use public transport, but who still need to make essential journeys. We understand how difficult life can become once people are unable to drive or use public transport. So, we offer a kind, caring and compassionate service which gives a safe and helping hand.
“Without Diana, my driver, calling for me and taking me out it would be far more expensive to use a taxi; but most importantly, Diana is now my friend and I know that when she calls I will not be rushed and we’ll have time for a chat”Jean, Community Cars member
A team of sedcat volunteer drivers run the Community Cars service. Our volunteers – all of whom are DBS checked – use their own cars to go out into the community and help members with every day needs. These can include a visit to a local GP, a trip to a friendship group, even the hairdressers!
Members pay an annual membership fee of £10, and mileage is charged at 60p per mile (minimum charge £5). This is calculated from the driver’s home. The membership fee also includes access to the BAT Bus Service.
Help is now at hand for wheelchair travellers in the area who need to get out and about but can only leave their homes in an accessible vehicle. A fully accessible Peugeot ‘Multi-Purpose Vehicle’ can be booked for passengers who can travel in your wheelchair (subject to availability) at a charge of £1 per mile (Min £8 charge).
The MPV is driven by fully trained community car scheme volunteer drivers who will collect passengers from their homes and take them wherever they need to go in Bournemouth or the surrounding area.
