The BAT Bus
Helping local people get out and about, make friends and feel part of the world again
Many people who live alone and feel isolated find new friends when they join the BAT Bus. Not only will they meet new people when they book a shopping trip, they can also go on many of the outings. These outings provide a chance to make new friends, get out and about and feel part of the world again. Losing that independence which was once so precious leads to depression and unhappiness. When the BAT Bus driver rings the doorbell friendly faces appear, hellos are made and life begins again.
The BAT Bus provides a door-to-door shopping service in the Bournemouth area; a programme of Wednesday afternoon and full day Saturday outings are also available to members. The BAT Bus is a purpose built minibus with a lift/ramp and accessible steps. As well as seated passengers, it can also accommodate a number of manual/powered wheelchair users. Friendly and helpful drivers collect members from their home and take them to the shops for approximately 2 hours shopping time. All of the BAT Bus drivers are MIDAS trained.
